Zakład Ubezpieczeń Społecznych |
Papa's brother Mitus (younger than Papa) announced today that he intends to move away from our house. Things are becoming more difficult and dangerous, so my parents agreed that for the present he should live in Hoza St. at Aunt Cyla's house.
Perhaps an apartment might turn up somewhere which he could rent for himself. He still worked at Zakład Ubezpieczeń Społecznych (ZUS -- Social Insurance Institute) and it would be closer for him. The adults went on debating something for a long time. But I had to tear myself away from their conversation - and the children's - to go back to my studies.
I did not know at the time what other problems led to Uncle's decision. Papa explained later they were the same as his. Although Uncle's attitude to children was different from Papa's - who loved them and who loved him - nonetheless the sadness in the hears of residents deepened when he said goodbye and went away.
